We held a party for our sweet Jenny, our RA, on April 30, 2008. It was for her birthday and graduation from her university. While we prepared for this party, Mai and I made a poster and a message card. We cut out paper with scissors and made “HAPPY BIRTHDAY.” and drew a picture of Jenny riding on a horse. While we were doing that, Chiemi joined us and we continued as we joked around. A few minutes later, she suddenly showed us something that she made as she sang a song. It was DORAEMON, which is a famous Japanese animation. Because we were concentrating on making the poster, we burst into laughter very hard while she drew something else. As soon as we stopped laughing, she showed it as she sang a different song. It was PICATYU this time, and again we burst into laughter. She is really good at making us laugh!
The party started at 6 o’clock. Yuri, Masako and Masame cooked a special dinner, and Shizuka, Tomomi and Miyako decorated the room, and we put up the poster on the wall. After that, we called for Jenny to the living room. “Happy Birthday, Jenny!” we said while singing a song, and presenting a cake. She was surprised, and said “Thank you!” Then Mai and I gave her a message card, and other people gave her presents. We were very glad to see that she was happy and touched. The dinner was made with corn, corned beef and pasta. It was a recipe that Yuri got from her host mother, and it was very good. Jenny usually does not eat very much, but that night she ate a big portion! After dinner, we ate the cake. We did not have enough time to bake a cake, so we bought it at Walmart. On the cake was a plate “Jenny” written on it. Jenny was happy to see it. Our surprise party was a great success!
