New Year`s Day in Japan

We do varius things on New Year's day.On January 1st,we eat Osechi. This is a traditional Japanese food,which is many kinds of foods in a box.Other New Year's foods are,Ozoni and a rice cake.Ozoni is soup containing rice cakes,vegetables,and ither ingredients.We visit a shrine or a temple at the beginnig of the New Year.This is called Hatsumode.We do Hatsumode to hope for a happy year.When we visit a shrine,most of us pull out an Omikuji.Omikuji is a fortune drawn by lot.And adults give Otoshidama.Otoshidama is money enclosed in a special smalll envelope.On New Year's day,we also play with kites,tops and do japanese badmintons.These are New Year's events in Japan.
