Family
Important Things
Genealogy is very important in Japan, so a boy is very valuable because a boy succeeds the family and last name. Recently, to favor boys over girls is decreasint, but especially older people rejoice when a boy is born. However, sometimes American people have adopted children, so genealogy is not important in America, I think. It looks to me like mind connection with each other is most important in America. What is important in family? There are very different ideas in Japan and America.Only a boy becomes the Mikado, the Emperor in Japan, since a long time ago. (The Imperial
House made it) So, a boy is important and genealogy is important. Opinion like this is common in Japan. Almost all American people have their family’s photos everywhere. Japanese people take pictures, but they don’t have them everywhere. My host family, teachers, Japanese-American people and my R.A. have their family’s photos in their purse. They treasure their family’s photos. I get the impression that for American people, genealogy is not important because they have more kinds of family style than Japanese families. If they aren't blood relations, it is not important for them.I think that important things are very different in culture and history. If I understand both things, I’ll learn more deeply about Japanese and American people.
