American and Japanese Character
Give Our Opinions

I have spent about two months here. I found many differences from character in America and Japan. I realized that I am in America. American people have individuality.

It is important for them to give their own opinion. I think that they are very friendly. They talk with someone who they have not met before. In Japan, people just listen to the other opinions, and agree with them or be quiet. I think we are passive and shy. So if we have our opinion, we probably would not say it. I think we like to make groups somewhere, such as school or company. We usually choose a strong opinion, and we do not adopt weak opinion. I think American people regard the others opinions.

I think that we should follow the American character. For example, we should be more active. In addition, I think that it is a good thing to give one’s opinion. If we do not say it, they cannot understand our thinking. People have each a different idea. Perhaps the idea will change the other's thinking.

Koto,

I think both ways can be nice, depending on the situation. Group cooperation can increase if people don't give their opinion. But, being passive does not help in learning a language.
