Weddings

American weddings are more casual than Japanese. There are no special manners, no letter to their parents, no presents for guests. Japanese people read a letter to their parents to say thank you for raising them. A bride generally reads the letter because she will leave her parents' house and move to her husband's house. That's a usual thing. In Japan, the host gives guests some presents at the end of the wedding ceremony. For example, a pair of glass, a towel or a picture frame. There are three interesting things. First, most American people buy the wedding dress. After the wedding ceremony, they cut the dress and make something with the cloth, or keep it for their children. Most Japanese people borrow the wedding dress because it's cheaper than buying it. Second, my host family went hiking and camping as a honeymoon. That's not usual, but it sounds fun! Third, my host family changed their dresses into jeans and T-shirts after the wedding ceremony. Then they played volleyball! Of course, it's also not usual, but it must be a very pleasant memory for them. They held the party outside, so they played volleyball! I like it. I think there is no common style wedding in America. They do what they want to do. It's a more enjoyable party. Japanese weddings are more formal and ceremonious. American style is better than Japanese because we can feel more delight at a casual wedding.
